Denn dieses Leben lebst nur du

The Story

In the conservative heart of southwestern Germany, four individuals make the courageous decision to transform their lives – completely.

Gabriel, Elisabeth, Melina, and Dunja have each reached a breaking point, where continuing as before was no longer possible. With honesty and vulnerability, Denn dieses Leben lebst nur Du, a documentary by Douglas Wolfsperger, follows their transition – of name, gender, and identity – in a region shaped by deep-rooted traditions and social norms.

We meet them lifting weights, paddling across Lake Constance, or working in a metal factory – all while navigating public scrutiny, private struggle, and moments of deep human connection.

This is a film about becoming – not just in terms of gender, but in pursuit of truth, joy, and a life that finally fits.

The Music

The score was crafted with a raw, unpolished aesthetic to reflect the film’s honesty and closeness to life itself.

Using intentionally rough recordings of tuba, trumpet, drums, acoustic guitar, and organ, the music mirrors rural textures and the emotional landscapes of its protagonists. Nothing is overproduced – instead, each sound breathes with imperfections that feel human, grounded, and deeply real.

This naturalistic sound world supports the documentary’s tone: not romanticizing, not dramatizing, but accompanying – with warmth, rough edges, and the quiet dignity of lived experience.
