The Story
While car fans are driving laps at the Nürburgring, people not far away in the Ahr Valley are hovering between confidence and hopelessness half a year after the flood disaster.
The musical idea
This documentary was hard to score.
Because I had to try to find a tone that supported the images, but at the same time didn't emotionalize them. Kevin (director) wanted the music to be super minimalistic and basically just a background to the silence. So I decided to record a solo guitar set to a huge reverb to reflect the loneliness of the night. There was the happy coincidence of my strings hitting against each other, creating a beautiful sound in the reverb.
The trumpet was recorded during the filming, so I adapted parts of the melody, reshaped it a bit and put a guitar underneath.
